Default window tinting in california?

does anyone know the law regarding window tinting? i'd like to have an 85% tint (it's pretty light) done all all of the windows, except the windscreen, but im not sure what the law allows.

anyone know?

Default no after-factory tint allowed on drivers windows or windshield without medical excuse..

..legally, or so I've seen in one spot on the DMV website. Another says that up to 85% is legal. So I don't know for sure. I'm sure you've noticed a lot of people who have it anyway, and much darker than 85%. I have 50% on all windows except the windshield. It is pretty hard to tell that it is tinted at all sometimes, gives it more of a deep look instead. I don't think you will even be able to see that 85% is tinted unless you compared it side by side with another window.

I have 30% and have not been hassled.
Unless you're rollin ghetto style, you most likely won't have trouble with the law.

Default That's really dangerous in L.A. considering...

...LAPD was acquited in a shooting where they fired through a window from outside, killing a guy inside with a toy gun. Every time an officer approaches a car like that (which screams ghetto or GB/OG in the first place) the first click you hear is the holster snap being released. Usually they just order everybody out and too bad for you if you don't comply soon enough.

People who tint all the windows that dark are idiots to begin with but I don't think they were buying into suicide by cop.
