Windshield wipers reset to the middle of the windshield, any thoughts?

Windshield wipers reset to the middle of the windshield, any thoughts?

The wipers on my friends Audi come to rest about 7 inches above where they used to, about a week ago. they will go all the way down but when they get turned off they go back up 7 inches. any ideas on how to fix them?

Just re-adjust and re-tighten the arm???

but if I loosen up the bolts and adjust the blades wont the wipers go below the windshield and get all messed up because the computer is resetting them 7 inches above normal... or will the motors not go beyond a certain point?
