Default Winter tires??? Suggestion / Info please..

I am looking at getting winter rubber soon. What tire would you recommend? What size? I am also looking for cheap 16" aluminums.

can you be more specific? What driving conditions do you encounter in winter and how often?

Default Well...

People have lots of varying opinions on what winter tires are best... I'm going through the same process, and haven't made my final decision yet.

Ask yourself:
- what's the weather like? mostly dry, mostly snow, mostly ice?
- are you willing to not drive if it's really bad out?
- what do you want to compromise, ultimate bad weather capabilities, or average dry road performance? If you want to retain dry performance look into a 'performance' oriented winter tire.
- how fast do you drive? Q rated ice tires vs. V,H,T rated performance winter tires.
- can you afford to replace a super soft ice tire every year or two?
- narrower tires (195/65R15) better for snow, but give up handling

Me, I'm probably going to go with Nokian Hakka Q on 15" steel rims, but as I said I haven't made my final decision yet.

<edit> - per your other question, I'll be buying 5 tires and rims. In the middle of winter, you may not be able to find a duplicate snow tire on short notice.

Default Do you have a 1.8 or a 3.0? You can fit 15s on a 1.8, but a 3.0 needs 16's. See my link...

for another earlier discussion on snow tires, and photos of what I'll be running this winter.

Good luck!

Winter Tire Thread

For ice, you can't beat Blizzaks. Not as sharp in the dry, but pure magic on ice!

Default tires.com

their prices are slightly higher, but it's compensated by giving you free shipping.
