Default Wipers stop in up position

All of a sudden my wipers stop in the up position. I have also noticed they run slower than they had previously.

I believe this started a few weeks ago when I got water in the floor pan on the driver's side. I have a new Central Electronics Control module but haven't installed it yet as I am still learning how to use the VCDS system.

Is this yet another symptom of a bad Central module or something else I should be looking at?

Was it after a rain? If so, it could be as simple as a relay that has shorted due to clogged drains.

I just had this happen to me, and as it turns out, with windshield wiper 'transmission' was seized solid on the one side. its easy to get out to replace or possibly fix, if it's fixable. in my opinion if they're doing that now, fix it while they're still moving. once they stop, it's shot, and wont come apart to grease up. the transmission is the arms that the wiper motor connects to to move the wiper arms. For my car the driver side pivot went. after removing the item, i thought, wow this is a easy fix. until i bent the entire thing smashing it with a hammer trying to get it apart. dealer wants 192 for it. local salvage has 1 for 100.
good luck if that made sense!

Thanks for the advice. Found it was a loose bolt on the motor assembly. Realigned the wipers, tightened the bolt. All is well.

How do you correct a relay short.

Have you looked at the other issues first? Lose bolt or seized motor?

The wipers work just fine. My only problem is that when I turn them off, they stop in vertical position as opposed to "docking" in the down position. Therefore, I do not think it is a seized motor.

When did it start? When you turn them on, they swipe down to the left and then back to the right, i.e. backwards?

The problem is most likely the wiper transmission (wiper motor). There is a catch on the trasmission that when it is returning to the down position to stop, one of the gears on the bottom hits that catch allowing it to stop in the down position. Most of the time you can simply hit that catch with a screw driver and hammer pushing it forward toward the gear until it is close enough to hit that gear, and that will solve your problem. Just make sure not to hit it to hard, because if you break that off, you are about to replace the whole thing. Ton of videos on youtube showing how to fix it.
