I've had this symptom with my car and now the wipers are stuck and won't move. The shop mechanic called back and said that I needed a new wiper transmission. Part Number 8E1955603D (they purchase directly from Audi). The total cost is $548 which is $249 for the transmission linkage and $281 for labour.
He said the motor is working fine. This seems like something I can easily do myself (and not pay almost $600) and I've seen some tech articles here on replacing the linkage/wiper motor.
Does anyone know where I can order this part online. I'd like to avoid ordering directly from the dealer. I'm in the Seattle area.
Also could I fix this issue by just greasing and cleaning the linkage since the motor works fine?
Thanks

see post below, Riverside Audi, decent pricing. Looks like ECS is your best bet though.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/1097717.phtml</a

Question,
I'm on GenuinevwAudiParts and am seeing the Wiper tranmission, a4, base but also the operating rods for the left and right.
What do I need from this site. The part number I was quoted for the Audi part was 8E1955603D.
Thanks

These components should not fail-a very poorly designed and poorly made assembly on a car of this level. I asked for advice last week on this forum and folks very generously shared their knowlege but due to time constraints had to have the dealer replace at $360 on a car with 40 k miles. As much as I love the cars, owning 2 Audis is becoming more of a maintenance nightmare all the time. Reliability is an issue and Audi USA is absolutely arrogant. Thak God for this forum to help each other out.

I've got my car back from the shop.
Planning to take it into work on Saturday ( where I have access to a lot of tools of various kinds) and see if a good clean and grease will work.
www.Genuinevwaudiparts.com sell 8E1955603D for $122.33 plus shipping. This is far less than the autoshop price of $246 (which was straight from the dealer).
I also just ordered the Bentley Audi A4 02-07 repair manual on DVD for $67 of www.autopartswarehouse.com.
I had a starter motor replacement run me just over $600 in November and at 53,000 miles this car seems to taking me into the shop more than I would expect.
I don't have to travel any far distances this week-end or next week so not too concerned about the weather forecast. I live really close to work too. I'll just grab some rain-x in the event I get stuck in some rain.

Yeah they replaced the starter motor. Said the battery was also dead, failed load test. So that was an extra $120 for the battery. Total plus taxes and labour was over $600.
Labour is $90/hour (with a 10% discount of the total) but I haven't found any Audi Certified dealers at much better prices and this place is 5 minutes from my home and 5 minutes from work.
Yeah it's time to start learning how to do these things myself or else this car will get very expensive to maintain.

Be sure that the shop at work has a bench vice and an 18" adjustable open end. This was necessary when I did this job on my son's A4. You will find that the problem is in the cylinders that the wipers rotate from. The corrosion can be very tough and probably bad enough to require the vice / wrench to work them loose.
Use a marine grade grease when re-assembling to reduce future problems.
The wipers need to be in the resting position to get the assembly out. The ECU plastic cover needs to be removed first.
