Just saw this thread. My wipers also are VERY slow and sometimes stop mid-stroke. I believe it's the wiper control arm mechanism under the cowling. I intend to remove the assembly and see if a clean and grease will help, but when I took a look under the cowling, it seems a HELLUVA difficult job to get access to the wiper mechanism. I removed the plastic trim around the battery area to have a quick look-see, and decided this must be a HUGE job to get to the wiper assembly to remove it?
ANY advice/suggestions on what needs to be removed to get this assembly out, or any pointers would be MUCH appreciated!
thx guys!
Oh...it's a B6 S4, if that makes any difference (out of warranty)

Never mind. I dug into it and replaced the wiper linkage assembly. I also wrote up the procedure here, if anyone's interested...

Be sure that the shop at work has a bench vice and an 18" adjustable open end. This was necessary when I did this job on my son's A4. You will find that the problem is in the cylinders that the wipers rotate from. The corrosion can be very tough and probably bad enough to require the vice / wrench to work them loose.
Use a marine grade grease when re-assembling to reduce future problems.
The wipers need to be in the resting position to get the assembly out. The ECU plastic cover needs to be removed first.

I had pulled it out, smoothed it with a piece of emory cloth wrapped around a wooden dowel and it worked great. Too bad it was bent.

I'm having the same problem with my 2005 S4 and was just considering replacing the linkage with this one:

Do people on this forum think that it will solve my slow wiper problem??
