Default Wir fahrn, fahrn, fahrn auf der Autobahn

I love driving my A4, but the constant "MIL" interruptions are a distraction. Do the guys who designed these vehicles live in the real world? Perhaps they have unlimited time and money to spend on their vehicles. I don't. Sending me an error code to tell me my gas cap isn't sealed to their satisfaction seems a little obsessive; dare I say overly ****?

Does the Vag-Com software I keep reading about in this forum interpret the "MIL" codes? Time is $$$

Thanks in advance.

Default It does...

BTW, your screen name wouldn't indicate you're in Chagrin Falls, Ohio would it? If so, I can let you borrow mine to see how it works before making an order. I'm all over Northeast Ohio (work by the Cleveland airport and live in Stow).

You need the sofware, the serial, USB, or hex-key connector, and a PC and/or laptop to run the software to be able to run diagnostics from the OBDII port.

Default You can thank your friendly EPA for the gas cap warning.

That's a US requirement not German obsessiveness.

Default It may be bundled into the CEL warning group....m...

Both Euro 3 and CARB/EPA have evaporative emissions controls requirements. Originally, automakers grouped the gas cap detection along with all the other emissions triggers for a CEL. However, once they saw how many gas caps were being left off or loose, forcing people to bring their cars in for warranty service (and costing automakers tons of warranty diagnosis work at dealers), they coughed up the money to put a stand alone gas cap warning that the driver can fix (for no charge).

CARB just requires a driver visual warning, they don't stipulate the method. But, they have to approve all automaker proposals on any new controls.
