Wiring Passport 8500 to Sunroof? to RearView Mirror?

I had a 99 VW Jetta VR6, and I fed my Passport 8500 power from an RJ11 cable I soldered to the Sunroof Unit (The cable went in thru the center light)
and it worked wonderfully... it stayed on even when the ignition was off, but that didnt affect anything...
Now I have a 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro Ming Blue (very nice!) and I'd like to do the same.. before I venture into it.. any recommendations? caveats? warnings? has anyone done it like this?
How about to the RearView Mirror? is there enough juice there?
Thanks

the wiring for the interior/map lights. My friend had done that on his Jetta (basically the same interior/map light set up in the A4). It was nice because while it stayed on with the ignition off, it turned off after 20 minutes or so, when the car cuts power to the interior lights (in case they've been left on).
You just need to tap the power before the switch for the lights.
