Default It could be. But if it was worn down, shouldn't I be able to reproduce it every time

I hammer it at the same speed in the same gear? I just find it strange that it only happens once in a while.

I can add another person in the car to having 4 people and trying to do it, still can't reproduce it. It only does it when it wants to then goes away.

Default possibly

But theres only a few situations where your clutch would fail/slip. I've seen some clutches that were down to metal on metal and still held like normal. Then i've seen some that were metal on metal and wouldn't hold for crap.

Yours might be worn just a hair enough that it slips but catches. the fact that it is getting more frequent is a sign that its prolly going to go sometime soon, as in a year or so. Like others said it cant be oil because its not happening when the car sits over night or something. Its when the car is rolling so the oil would be all on the outside of the inside of the tranny housing.

Also the slipping might heat the clutch surface up a little so that it makes it a tad wider and a hair more sticky, and thus regrabs itself.

Default When my clutch was slipping it was because the input shaft seal was leaking.

I only noticed it when I went stage 1, under stock HP the clutch was fine. I have 154k on my B5 and no issues with the rear main seal leaking.

Default If it can last me a while longer, I'll be happy. Hopefully its just the start of it wearing out and

nothing major. I figure I need a replacement sooner or later but if it can hold out longer, why not

Default Still on the stock clutch?

I should crawl under the car and look for leaks, just in case. Good to know the additional info!

Default Nah I am on ECS RA4 clutch with LWF. I get some chatter when I lug the

engine but otherwise the set up works well. I think if I had known more I would have gone with a Southbend but this works well. Basically I think it is the B5 S4 clutch set up adapted to work on the 1.8T

Oh I had no leaking on the ground that I ever noticed.

Default Not sure if this helps, but here's a picture of my bell housing @ 71,000 miles

There was a significant leak at the input shaft. This, in combination with a worn clutch, caused significant slipping. It started in 5th gear only at low rpm highway acceleration and gradually (over the course of 5 months) was pronounced in nearly ever gear under any load.

Had the leak been identified earlier, I would still be on the stock clutch. That said, I couldn't be happier with the new Southbend clutch.

Default do you think the oil got onto the clutch plates/flywheel when the vehicle was sitting and wore

the clutch down because of added lubricant and eventually was noticed when the clutch was fully engaged in 5th?

Doesnt make sense that the oil would get on the clutch/flywheel when its moving and cause a problem.

Default Judging by the severity of the leak, I have to assume that saturation of the plate had taken place

moving or not, the plate was probably compromised over time. Prolonged driving did not help or hurt the situation.
