Check the classifieds for a set of OEM bi-xenons

Not a bad price. They'd be even better if they were ecodes.

Default It actually has nothing to with the type of light.

E-Code means European Code head lights. In North America, head lights are supposed to be DOT approved. It used to be (and likely still is) that European headlights are allowed to be brighter and have a longer focus than those approved for use in North America use. Whats confusing is that the term "E-Code" is also loosely used to refer to a brighter light which is DOT approved.

Default xenon = hid lows only, bi-xenon = hid lows and highs.

Google for pics of DOT and ECE light beam patterns (they're different). ECE places an emphasis on lighting the road, DOT places an emphasis on lighting the road as well as road signs. ECE is more focused and clearer. DOT produces more glare and less light on the road.

Default Xenon = HID bulb low & regular bulb high, Bi-Xenon = 1 HID bulb with a flapper thing-a-ma-jig

for high beam. A separate HID bulb isn't used for high beams because it doesn't light up quick enough.

Is that Audi specific? I thought BMW and others actually use two different bulbs.

It's all in the projector design. Bulbs are the same.
