Xenons are a total waste of money. Not even a real noticeable difference in brightness

Those halogen lights were some of the most poorly designed headlamps ever installed on a car. Maybe your 02 xenons suck even more, but the halogen reflector lights from the 1st gen A4 were terrible terrible lights.
Just because it wasted 50% of its light over the vertical doesn't mean it was a good light, just that it APPEARED to provide better coverage at a rough glance. Your new lights only light up the road, and don't waste much light above the vertical. Lots of people find this confusing at first, but trust me, you'll see eventually how much better the new style lights are. They light much further down the road than the halogen reflectors were ever capable of.
