Both, as long as the oil meets/exceeds VW 503 specs

Default 0W-40 M1 is the only M1 that meets the Audi/VW specs.

It doesn't really matter either way, your engine is not going to melt down. I personally would rather choose the oil that meets the specs.

Remember dealers generally can't find their *** with both hands.

Look at this link for Mobil1 0W-40
http://www.mobil1.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil_1_0W-40.aspx

You're looking for this spec on the container.

Default They are both 40 "weight" oils. The "w" rating is how cold they can still allow the engine to crank.
