You members have told me to use 0w 40 and the dealer says 5w40-who is right

0W-40 M1 is the only M1 that meets the Audi/VW specs.
It doesn't really matter either way, your engine is not going to melt down. I personally would rather choose the oil that meets the specs.
Remember dealers generally can't find their *** with both hands.

They are both 40 "weight" oils. The "w" rating is how cold they can still allow the engine to crank.
