Your experience with ski/bike racks and audio mods
I just got my car and will probably wait a while before doing any major mods, but I'm already looking into ways of hauling my toys around:
- has anyone installed a hitch receiver for hitch-mounted bike racks? Does it look as bad as it sounds?
- what ski/bike racks are people using out there? Used to have Thule, could reuse parts if cross-bars are available for A4.
Also, has anyone tried controlling an MP3 player from the (Symphony) stock player? There's a company that makes this cool device with a hard drive that looks like a CD changer to a source unit ... as long as it (the source unit) is capable of controlling a (remote) multi-changer.
So if anyone has installed a CD changer in the trunk, please let me know how you did it.

Re: audio mods... Yes, it can be done with the Symphony...
The Symphony does have an input for an external CD changer that you can use for input. Autotoys.com sells an adapter that tricks the input so that the headunit thinks there is a changer attached, but gives you RCA inputs for any device you choose. It doesn't allow you to control the device with the head, but it's the best you're going to do...

I bought the adapter by I haven't decided on a player yet. This is the best one I've found...

Also, I don't think our cars are pre-wired for the external changer, so you would have to get that cable too. Your dealer should be able to find that for you.

audio mods... I was considering this (see url)
http://hardware.mp3.com/hardware/individual/3806.html
... but it looks like I won't be able to control it from the stock head unit, so I'd be looking at ripping out the symphony, a more expensive and less visually pleasing alternative.
I just refuse to use the casette adapter, it looks awful, the cable is in the way, and controlling it requires looking at two different things (not a good idea when you're driving down the twisties.)

Well, with the NEO, I thought about installing the wired remote where our ashtray is...
I think it would fit well and look relatively stock (no wires, running about). Also, there's another forum member who was able to change the color of the display to red, to make it look even better.
