Default 06 2.0T Engine swap

I recently bought an 06 A4 Quattro for dirt cheap because the engine was “blown” according to the previous owner. Upon further inspection, once I got the timing belt off, the crank spun fine but the cam’s were seized. I figured the chain or follower in the rear had exploded. After I got the head off, this was not the case. The cam’s were all galled to heck and oil starved. So now I’m shopping for a new (junk yard) engine because I assume the pump is shot or the pickup screen is plugged on this one. Either way, it was starved of oil at one point and I don’t want to dig into it any further.

Anyway, I’m searching the web for used engines and they all say 05-08 fit my car but upon further research, some guys say if I go with an 07 or 08 engine I need the ECU from them as well because they are different engine codes. Mine is a BPG engine code and chain driven oil pump, 07-08 is BWT engine code and gear driven oil pump; the latter being the route I’d like to go if possible. Other site’s say I would be fine, I just need to swap over the Fuel pressure sensor from my original 06 if I use an 07 or 08 and I’d be fine. Anyone have any input? Can I just buy an 07 or 08 and swap the sensors from my 06? I’d appreciate any help.

Default Engine swap

I’m also in the process of swapping out the engine in my wife’s 2005 A4 Wagon. Found a website, UEM.com, that sells used engines with 5 year / 50,000 mile warranties, part and labor. I’m sure they would have one for your 06. I ordered one Friday with 66,000 miles. Hopefully it will work out.
It was a blast pulling the old one.
