I have about 6,500 miles on the car. Two weeks ago the check engine light came on. Made an appointment to get it checked up. Two days later light goes off. Cancel appointment. Yesterday it comes on again. Called dealer and made appointment for this coming Tuesday. Anyone have any thoughts as to what the problem could be?

My check engine light has come on twice immediately after filling up and reset itself a day or so later. Since then I have wiped off the gas cap gasket and closed it with afew "clicks" instead of just one. No repeat check engine lights after doing this.

I have the same car (3.2 6 spd). To save 5 cents a gallon, I used 3 tankfuls of WAWA premium instead of BP ultimate. Engine code came up as rough idling, even though it idled fine. After 2 resets of the CEL, my dealer ended up replacing all the injectors, which were fouled beyond belief. That was 8K ago and no problems since.

The dealer said it was the knock sensor and had it replaced. After a month or so, the CEL is on and off again. I brought it back and they couldn't seem to find the exact problem. They suggested to replace the knock sensor's harness, and that I have to wait for the part to come in... it was a few months ago and I haven't heard from them. I took the car to another dealer to confirm the knock sensor theory, and the VAG code did indicate some erratic faults from the knock sensor. Dealer told me to wait till the CEL is ON again and bring the car to them.
