I actually run real summer tires in the summer. I don't mind changing tires twice a year. Just not twice a week.
1) Yeah -- I bought the current set right at the beginning of snow season. They worked -- I was just disappointed by comparison to my old RE950s (bridgestone doesn't make 960s my size).
2) Hmm. I'll have to take a second look at winter tires. See what I can find about wear...
3) That sounds great, but i've never seen these -- where do you find those?
Thanks!

It's not everyone else that it turning this into a trainwreck, it's you. You're not helping them guide you to an answer, you're leading people in circles.
Your original thread seemed to state you wanted one tire that did everything and now you're stating that you run two tires year round. Get a real winter tire and be done with it.
Your rule of thumb is any winter tire with an H speed rating or higher will get better wear and better dry performance. The first thing it will sacrifice is ice grip, the next is snow grip (compared to the next bunch) but they are still very good on snow.
Any winter tire with a speed rating of below H (see tire rack's website for a breakdown of speed ratings) will do much better on ice and will be all you need on snow.
I had a set of Nokian RSi's on my last car and they were absolutely fantastic on snow and ice. They didn't wear like a multicell tire on dry/warm weather either. I ran them for 20K miles before they were down to 4/32n's and became less effective on the snow and ice. They fell into the category of the lower speed rating as described above, however their wear qualities were like the first categary above. Truly an exceptional tire. If you don't mind spending the money, run these in a 17" winter set. (18's get obnoxiously expensive)

Summer is summer here, but winter is 95% 70 degree dry pavement.
Seriously though, thanks for the advice. I *do* appreciate it.
