2006 Cabriolet and Warranty Questions

Considering the purchase of a CPO 2006 Cab 1.8T and have been reading these forums for research, but had a couple of questions that don't seem to be addressed here.
Some background: Dealer has the car listed for $23,900. Looks good, drives good, two previous owners (one a lease and another who appears to have bought it for summer joyriding, returned in September of this year). Has 35,500 miles on it. We plan to finance the purchase for at least 3 years. Audi has a CPO rate at 4.49% for that term. We have other options that come close to that.
My issue is that the original and CPO warranties will be up before we are done paying off the car. As a rule, I do not like to finance a car longer than the warranty term. Hence, I'd like to buy an extended warranty now to make sure I'm covered during the finance period (and before the extended warranty becomes more expensive).
However, the dealer tells me that I cannot buy a warranty while within the CPO period (at least not an "Audi" warranty). He suggests that they remove the certification (thus reducing the purchase price), thereby enabling us to purchase an Audi-basked warranty now. He tells me that the warranty is backed by JM&A. I'm not clear on whether this is the Audi Pure Protection warranty or not.
So, my question is this: does anyone know if you can purchase the Audi Pure Protecion (Platinum level) warranty on a CPO'd car? Also, does anyone know if the Pure Protection plan is an actual extension (i.e., a 4 year plan extends 4 years from the warranty purchase date) or whether it runs from the date the car was put in service?
Thanks in advance for your help.
