6 Speed Shifting...

6 Speed Shifting...
Is it always slightly harder to shift back into 1st or 2nd from a roll than it is when the car is stopped??...I drive in traffic a lott and it was just brought to my attention because it seemed like i was using more force to go back to 1st or 2nd from neutral than i should be. Anyone let me know if they experience the same thing. Thanks

Re: 6 Speed Shifting...
Are you rev-matching? What kind of speed are you trying this at?
Also, lower gears are sometimes designed with more sychronizers because we shift into them more often over the life of a transmission.
I would not select first gear unless the car is at a crawl.

Re: 6 Speed Shifting...
I do experience similar in shifting the 6-spd. My biggest concern is shifting into 3rd. Around 90% of times, I feel something hitting each other (metal to metal, which would be described as "notchniess").
If I take time to shift into third it is smooth as it goes into other gears, but normal upshifting usually yields notchiness.
The clutch and accelerator feel and engaging points in A4 are so different than typical mechanical linkage ones. Seems like there is no free play at all on clutch and accelerator seems having its own mind. It feels like even 1/10th inch of releasing cause full engagement in clutch. when I floor the accelerator, it takes a few seconds engine to react it is not a turbo lag by the way.
At some aspects, I miss my old SVT Contour.

Here is a little tip.
I have a system i use all of the time in traffic. Go into 1rst between 1-10mph. Go into second from 10-20mph. Go into 3rd bewtween 30-40mph and so on and so on. It works and you will not get all of that jerkiness. Try it and see what you think. I am also going to get a snub/engine mount for like 40 bucks. The word is it makes shifts smoother and its a cheap investment.
