Disgrace to the Audi community but a disgrace to motor vehicles full stop. Get back on your bicycle and bunny hop onto a soda can so you can make your bike do fart noises.

I had some notchiness in 3rd gear but it seemed to have smoothen out. No issues with 1st or 2nd while downshifting - as long as you blip the throttle to match the revs to the gear, it should shift in smoothly.

1. The 2.0T has low inertia. You need to learn how much power to give it for smooth starts. It can't be explained; you just have to get used to it.
2. Carry a little power in all your shifts. You do not have to let all the way up on the gas every time you push the clutch. It won't over-rev, and you won't hurt it. Any effort to match the transmission to the engine will smooth out your ride and reduce wear on the clutch.
3. The only place the clutch pedal ever stops is all the way up or all the way down. If the pedal's anywhere in between and you're not moving it, you're abusing it.
4. Learn to heel-toe. Your pedals are close together for a reason.
Oh yeah, almost forgot -- I'm starting to think the weak link is the third gear shift gate. It looks like you have to be very deliberate going from 2nd to 3rd. Too far over to the left and it hangs...

When I test drove the 2.0T Quattro manual from University Audi here in Seattle, I distinctly remember having a tough time with the shift into third. It somehow snags a bit.
Granted I'm out of practice driving stick, but I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice it.<ul><li><a href="http://home.comcast.net/~jrdailey/Holiday2004/A4_Ridge.jpg">My baby: 1998 A4 2.8QSTip</a></li></ul>
