660cc injectors really needed??

I was on the atp website looking at the Eliminator kit and I noticed that for the dyno run the installed 660cc injectors. Is that really necessary for 300 hp or were they just used so that there was some extra head room? If they are necessary then how dramatic would the effect be on mpg? If the 660cc injectors aren't needed then what is the smallest injectors you could use to get the same hp level and what was the mpg effect be for those?
P.S. - I'm a newbie so go easy if I phrased the question wrong or just asked a stupid question all together.

Regardless of injector used, a certain air fuel ratio must be maintained to make safe power.
Either a smaller injector runs at a higher percentage of duty cycle, or a larger injector works less hard, but in the end, the fuel delivery needs to be the same for a given load and air mass.
If the stock injectors are maxed out and you still need fuel to maintain a safe air/fuel ratio, an injector upgrade is necessary.
Of course, whoever tunes it must calibrate the file for the injector size used.
