My car is 06 A4 Quattro S-Line with 69,000 miles, manual. Prior to getting the ignition coils replaced in the Audi recall, I had long crank times, occasional missing and the problem I bring up now. At high speed and high rpm, the engine loses power. So, e.g., I downshift to pass someone. Everything is smooth until I reach around 4500-5000 rpm, and then the engine powers back. Its nowhere near redline. It doesn't happen at low speed/high rpm; just high speed/high rpm. I thought the coil replacements had fixed this--it seemed to temporarily--but it happened again yesterday. Anyone else experienced this and know whats going on? Thanks!

Sounds like you had my problem: Check out my post "A4 Falls on its face" ----I had power losses and finally a couple of check engine lights, code P2293
My vehicle is currently in the shop having its intake camshaft, cam follower and high pressure fuel pump replaced. ( 62K on vehicle ). If you are in the market for MY's 2005-2007 be advised this could happen to your vehicle and if you don't have an extended warranty it is very costly. ($1930.35)
The TSB 150702 states "Excessive wear of the cam lobe( in the intake camshaft ) that drives the high pressure fuel pump. This limits the max pump piston lift, causing fuel rail pressure fluctuations. This wear on the cam lobe also leads to wear in the base of the high pressure fuel pump cam follower. "

Very helpful--thank you! It does sound like same issue. No check engine light yet. I'm wondering if this will need to come on and register the code before I can get it fixed. I do have extended warranty that I expect will cover.

Yes. Audi did not do anything until complete failure. As time goes the issue will get worse. Like I said in one of my posts, it was only 5 months until it failed completely. Look for engine code P2293 once it throws a light.
