My 08 A4 has an indentation in the front bumper for a regular (US Typical)license plate - I had a European plate on my 02 Passat that looked good but again, the A4 bumper is not made for it - what kind of plates are available for these noemal size indentations on the A4 ?

There are quite a few trim options for the license plate trim. If your state does not require a front plate then a smooth filler trim piece can be install in place of one that accomodates a license plate.
