Default Acoustical glass windshields

Can anyone tell me when Audi started to use acoustical glass windshields as an option on the A4's? I have an '06 A4 SLine and Safelite wants $850 to replace with acoustical glass.

Please PM me at swestm3@bellsouth.net

Thanks,
Stuart

Default Did you shop online for a price...

Not sure about the acoustical glass for your car, but pricing for an '07 near me at worst is $359

Glass dot net

Yes, I checked Safelite. They quoted two very different prices for the "06 and '07+. Can anyone verify when Audi went to the Acoustical glass for windshields as an option?

Default ok. I get it. they are talking about the side glass and rear glass

all windshields are laminated from the factory. as long as 20 years ago, some car makes were putting an inner shield of lamination on the windshield for added protection in case of a accident, it would protect you in case of you crashing and going thru the windshield, so there was a little protection from the glass with the plastic over it. The drawback is that it is scratch prone and you cant put any kind of vehicle sticker on it without damaging it. Most highline autos have offered the laminated glass on the sides of the car because it is quieter and harder to break into( think a school door glass with metal in the inside of the glass with a cross hatch pattern compared to a window pane glass that is easily breakable). It would make the car quieter and alittle harder to break into, all it is is a clear layer of plastic between 2 layers of glass. If you tint windows you almost have the same kind of setup, just the glass still breaks into a million pieces(tempered glass) but the tint holds it together somewhat. as for a windshield application, I think your out of luck, in my 10 years with Audi I have never seen an innershield W/S in a Audi. Quite a few A8's with laminated side glass, maybe 1 or 2 A6's and thats it.

No. Safelite said the front windshield needed acoustical glass and $850 installed..
Took it to Audi and $265 OEM installed via Safelite. Go figure!!
