Would it be worth going back to the dealer to get the sport suspension added to my new Avant? Assuming it costs the $250 option price...or should I just invest that money elsewhere?

Adding suspension after the fact is very expensive in the labor department. And not to mention the parts cost a lot of money from the parts dept.
I purchased a slightly used sport suspenion and had it installed, total cost was around $600. Of course this was not done at an audi dealer.

The option price is $250 because you are not buying the "normal" suspension. You already purchased the normal suspension and now are going to purchase parts for another suspension. So parts alone will be more then $250. Now the dealer needs to remove the dampers and springs to put the new springs on the car and do an alignment. You would be looking at about $1000 in labor costs alone. If you want to do that just get an aftermarket suspension which will be much better then the stock sport suspension.

I'm waiting on dealer to get back to me on pricing. It does seem like a lot of parts for $250. Heh... If it gets to be too much, there are probably better options. I just don't know much about the quality of this when compared to others.

Parts will be north of $1K and labor will be another $800, plus $150-200 for an alignment. The parts already on your car are worth $0 to the dealer.
The answer to your question is yes, it's worth the $250. But the reality is, no dealer will offer it up for $250 so your original question is meaningless.

Just wondered whether it was a good option. Once it passes $1000, it's time to look elsewhere.

You're looking at nearly $300 a corner to do it. The springs from the parts dept are something like $212 and $225 a piece around. Then add in the sway bar.

You're better off buying aftermarket, and having a qualified mechanic install. To go with the stock setup, you'd pay ~$2k with install - an aftermarket setup (non-coilover) would be much less... more than half!
