Default Not really

When getting new tires, it's a good time to get an alignment, just to make sure that your nice new tires don't wear prematurely.

But if you're good at maintenance, you're getting an alignment regularly regardless.

It ultimately depends on when the last time you had an alignment was, and what symptoms you've got that might indicate your alignment is off.

Not really...cars don't get "disaligned" unless you hit a curb, big potholes, etc.

Default No, you are confusing something. You are also right, let me explain.

Cars should be aligned every 30,000 miles or so. (Or if you did something that may have gotten it out of alignment - like hit a large pothole.) Turns out that tires last about 30,000 miles. So it is easy to link and remember (and market) - get an alignment every time you get new tires. But that does not mean that if you are installing new wheels that you need an alignment. Unless you are replacing wheels/tires that are 30,000 miles old.
