If I get the 93 octane program, will 91 octane gas work with the program and I will just see the 91 octane performance numbers, or can I only use 93 octane gas for the prgram to work at all?

and the chip would not be working to it's full potential. I'm sure it's not bad if you're worried about it. It would be bad running race programs with 91 though... I'm not a genious, I'm just making a semi-educated statement.
I would only get the 93 program if that gas is available everywhere you drive (I know around me it is, so I would get it).

...I talked with them about this very issue. We can only get 92 octane here in central Iowa (I've only seen one place in the state that had 93 octane). The APR people said that it was very risky to run the 93 program with 92 octane fuel...so I bought the 91 program. I'll talk with them again before purchasing software for my B7.
You could probably run 91 & some octane booster and be ok...but I'd talk to APR about your situation specifically. John is right...err on the side of caution. I'll wager the 2.0T is darned pricey to replace. :-)

Joel

the EMCS offering. If I get my car chipped before the EMCS is released, do I get both the actual EMCS switcher and a second program like stock for free? Or is the switcher free and I have to pay for another program or visa versa?

The stock programming has to cater for various octane ratings from 87 - 93 to prevent knocking or pinging under load. In a Turbo motor its important to prevent detonation.
A performance chip increases boost and timing to create more horsepower therefore it requires more octane to prevent detonation. The higher the octane the greater the protection againt detonation.
If you run lower than expected octane with a performance chip it is likely to cause detonation. APR keeps all of the built in checks for detontation/knock but if you push it you can still do damage to the motor over time.
If you're not sure that you can get 93 Octane all of the time get two programs, stock and chipped.

Hi, I got the APR software 2 days ago and it's been really tough to stay off the throttle :-)
You're thinking of the EMCS as a physical switch. As my tech explained it to me, the EMCS is just software that allows you to switch between programs from your cruise control stalk, everything you need is already physically in your car. If you get the APR software now, you'll get this switching capability along with another program for free, with the installation the second time around for free also (this second installation fee is negotiable with whichever shop you visit, but I can't see them charging you twice).
Hope that helps.

I have about 1/8 of a tank of 89 octane gas in the car right now. If I fill it up with 93 right before I get the chip, the software should be ok to use right?
