I don't have anything against the CVT. My last A4 had it and I thought it was great. I never had any trouble with it.
BUT.... My car was not chipped.
Some folks call the CVT "brittle". I don't think that's fair.
It works very well within it's design limits.
I can't remember the exact figure, but I believe it's capable of handling up to 250 lbs of torque.
Any chip worth getting is going to push more than that.
I think you'd be asking for real trouble trying to twist that much with a CVT.

Can't the dealer start playing with the cruise control stalk and at least see evidence that the APR system is installed, even if they can't change the program?

At least you could on my 2003 APR chipped A4. The tech can play all they want with it and can't get in unless they know your code.
