Default Avant owner question - can a 52" LCD fit in the back?

I'm working on picking up an Avant in the next few weeks. I'm in the process of moving and was going to rent a van this weekend to move my TV, but if it can fit in the back of the wagon I'll wait and save a few bucks. Samsung 52" LCD.

I just moved a 50" plasma last week sideways in the back seat of a B7 A4. You have some advantages because you can lay an LCD flat whereas my plasma had to stand up so I would say you should be alright since you can go lengthwise and lay it down more if need be. It was a tight enough fit side to side that that extra 2" diag would probably have meant it wouldn't have fit sideways in the back seat like I did but it would have been close. I think you'll be alright though.

Thanks Jeremy, I think I'll hold off on renting a van and give it a shot. What's the point of buying an Avant if you can't haul stuff around anyway, right?

I did some quick measurements on my Avant.

You have a usable 38" wide and approximately 60" deep with the rear seats folded down, which appears to be the only way it will fit.

Post the specs of the TV (LxWxH) to let you know what might work with more certainty.

Much appreciated GCB. The TV is 50.2" x 31.7" x 4.1", so seems like it will be able to lay flat. That's good news, I had thought it might have to go in at an angle. Thanks again for measuring.

Btw, my Avant purchase is finalized, picking it up Tuesday. It is pretty much your car's exact twin, just a 2006. I even showed my wife some pics of yours to get her excited. I think her exact words were "woah, are we getting those wheels? that car looks HOT!"

Best Buy folks told me that the plasma should not be put horizontally - it should be kept straight up; i.e vertically - something to do with two layers of glass and them cracking. I tried to fit the 50" in the X3, but the height was too much - then tried it in the 'vert with the top down in the back seat (no cardboard); still didn't fit. Had to get someone in a pickup to help.

Yeah it worked like a charm. was out of the box (had the tv a while, moving). I actually put a partially inflated air mattress down and put my tv on top of that with some blankets. no issues.
