b&w (red) trip computer controls?

I just got my b7 avant, and like my b6, it has a standard red screen on the dash that tells things like miles to go before fill up. The thing is, they've moved the button off the wiper stalk and I can't figure out where it went.
Now the manual clearly shows that the stalk is supposed to have these buttons, but the manual has been wrong before.
The tech package gets the color trip computer, which would make me assume that the regular trip computer is just red.
Tell me that the big info display isn't made completely useless in the b7's unless its the color one?
I just want to scroll like I did before on things like average speed, total time of trip, avg mpg...
If they took it off the car, wtf is audi thinking?

AFAIK, the standard red screen on B7 display is just the somewhat accurate miles to empty. All the goodies require the color trip computer on the tech package.
This was a big disappointment to me as well when I got my B7 back in Aug ... but I have gotten over it since driving the car is such a pleasure.
From what I read you could (in theory) replace the main console and wiper stalk to install the color trip computer, but that will cost $$$. There were some posts in the archive on this topic a while back (October time frame, if I remember correctly)

Guys in Europe have done it. All you need is a new wiper stalk and some VAG-COM changes, then you get the B6 style Driver Information System.

Thanks. Will have to look into this. Seems to me that if its in there already, the stalk should be something easily added.
I cannot believe that Audi would drop this option but add things like a mute button on the steering wheel for a phone hook up. Whats more useful?
I used my trip computer on the B6 almost every day and especially on TSD rallies to keep average speed info.

Somebody here mentioned that they don't have the NAV+ or BT and their mode button works (changes from FM-AM-CD-and so on). Or was I on something and misread that.... anybody?

Pretty sure it was an 05.5 car that had it :/
I know I have tech, no nave, and dont have BT (wish I did now that I have a BT phone) but I'd much rather it go cd/am/fm and mute!

We never bothered using a half model year designation. Of course, I know it's a 2005.5 because there was no technology package available at the time.
