B6 S4 vs B7 A4 3.2???
Wanted to get s4 b6, but have read a lot of info about new b7 and now thinking about 3.2 Only mods I would do is exhaust and maybe intake. I didn't drive neither of them yet? Anyone with that kind of experience?Suggestions, thougts? (I don't really care if 3.2 is a bit slower than 4.2)Are there any significant differences between those two(except engine and bodystyle)
Thanks

Well, since I own both, here's my opinion on them...
First off, I really like my S4...so much that I gave up a modded W209 CLK55 to keep it. That being said, I'd opt for the B6 S4. I didn't do many mods either, just res. catback, rear sway, wheels and tint. Buying an extended warranty and plans to run it into the ground kept me from modding further...so far.
But you will hate the gas mileage you get on the S4, trust me. I get 14 city only or maybe 20 mpg w/ mixed city/fwy. In the wifey's 3.2, it's not only about 300 lbs. lighter, but waaay more fuel efficient and a newer model, too. I haven't gotten used to the taillights of the B7 yet, but I do like the front grill as much as my B6.
If a lighter, more fuel efficient car is more important than power, then find a 3.2 S-Line (it handles just like my S4). If you want a more powerful car and don't mind the $$$$ you'll spend on gas, then go S4.
In my case, I have the best of both.

I had a B6 S4 modded to hell and I loved it. I only got about 12mpg at best when I
was behaved. Or Id get around 7 in the city. Its a nice nice car. If I had to choose between a 3.2 B7 and a B6 S4, well I guess that depends on what you want. Only you can answer that but the B6 S4 is fast and its fun. The 3.2 has to be more economical. I have a B7 2.0T S Line now and it isnt too far off from the S4. Once I get some mods it might even be as fun.

Driving my B7 2.0T S Line comp to my modded B6 S4 I can really say that I feel the S4
isnt a good middle ground anymore, at least not until the B8 arrives. The B6 and B7 S4's are the same car. And the 2.0T is so good that I just cant find too much more that the S4 has except for the sound.... wow. But my 2.0T is so much more loaded in the cabin and the seats arent recaro but they are still good.

I had the same choice and bought the 3.2
It depends on a lot of different factors...
I bought the car, and keep my vehicles for 6-7 years. For me, the cost of ownership (fuel and insurance) over that sort of time period made the S4 a lot more expensive in the long run.
I liked the new B7 design, and again, since I will keep the car for so long I didn't want to start out a generation behind already. Plus I got a lot more goodies in the B7 (Nav+, brand new car, etc.).
The 3.2 FSI is a great engine if you like V6's...it is Audi's best V6 by a *long* shot. Sure the S4 has better performance but the 3.2 really seems to handle about the same. The S4 has a deeper rumble, but again, if you like V6's the 3.2 has a really nice snarl to it. The performance gap wasn't large enough IMO to justify the increased cost of ownership over a 6-7 year period. It really adds up.
If I was leasing or only planned on keeping the car for 2 years I might have gone S4. But the B7 body style is a lot nicer than the B6 (IMO) and the only time you will really miss that performance would be on a track or street racing -- neither of which I do.

I was in the same situation....
I ended up getting the B7 3.2. I liked the body style much better, besides I had a 02 A4 and couldn't justify going back to that body style. The 3.2 is a nice engine and can be quick at times but in my opinion the S4 engine is much more fun, especially off the line. That car pulled hard all the way to 60. In the top end department the S4 didn't seem to pull that much more than the A4. In fact my old R32 had more top end than the B6 S4. Of course that car was modded! I'd say drive them both and see what you like better. If I had to do it over I would have waited and bought a used 05.5 B7 S4!
