Just because you want to know what car someone won a race with doesn't mean you're discrediting them as a driver...

I've been a professional photographer for 22-years and frequently someone likes one of my photos, they ask what kind of camera do I use. It used to really tick me off, but I've decided that the people who ask this question usually fall into one of three categories.
1) They really like the photo and are just trying to make small talk and don't realize they just complimented the tool, not the craftsman.
2) Folks who are truly interested in photography and who may be looking for advice on what to buy.
3) People who already have a nice camera and don't want to admit that the reason their photos are unsatisfactory is not their camera, but with the person behind the camera.
Matt, I have been admiring your photos for some time now, please post more pix. Great shots, love the shallow DOF. I can't wait to see some shots of the grill on the car!

Actually though, a hobbiest chef would be very interested in what pan was used. My mom can talk for days about which pan she used and why. It makes for some really long dinners sometimes. :-/
I really don't think you should be insulted by this question. Using the right tool is very important. The difference is that a good photographer can still take great pictures with crap tools and a crap photographer will stil take crap pictures with a good tools.

Save the image to desktop and right click on it, select properties, then click on the summary tab. Then click the advanced button. You can see pretty much all the info there -- camera type (Canon EOS 20D), focal length, shutter speed, aperature, even the programs for metering and the camera itself.

Not to worry, I'm not insulted, just making an observation, I think Matt deserves 100% of the credit for his photography.
Perhaps its just me, but when someone says great photo, what kind of camera do you use I think much of the credit for the photography is being wrongly attributed to the camera and not the photographer.
Anyway, My post was way OT and I hope I ammused more folks than I have offended.
Cheers!
