B7 first oil change -- no change before 5k mi (per dealer)
FYI, I asked a local dealer whether it would be beneficial or acceptable to have the first oil change sometime prior to 5,000 miles. (8,000 km for you metric fans.)
The dealer claimed that Audi has instructed service departments to NOT perform oil changes prior to the first 5,000 miles, whether or not customers were willing to pay for them. He went on to claim that while he had not been informed of any additives being in the initial oil, he suspected that there probably was some sort of additive, given the directive.
Incidentally, quotes for oil changes that I have received have ranged from $95-135, a pretty broad variation. For the 2.0 liter, the price of the OEM cartridge oil filter is roughly $25, and of course, over 6 quarts of synthetic are required.
If you have heard information to confirm or refute the information re: the first service interval, please post it here. Thanks.

Oil changes every 10k miles are not enough
Even with synthetic oil, a four-cylinder engine with turbochargers such as the B7 2.0 liter, driven under real world conditions (urban traffic, dusty conditions, etc.), is going to need more frequent oil changes than is provided with the maintenance plan. The 10,000 mile intervals make sense during optimal conditions, which exist for almost noone.
I intend to have oil changes every 6 mos./ 5000 miles. (Unfortunately, it's not a job to be left for Jiffy Lube.)

Just had mine done at 1800 last week...
I asked for a quote first - ballpark was $125 and they tried to convince me it was not needed. Same when I brought it in - service dude asked if I really wanted it... "uhhh yeah I really do - thats why Im here at 7:30am on a Saturday!" I did get a bit of discount presenting the Audi-Club of America card - which brought it to 98$ (from revised actual service quote of $110).
