So I had to pick up a new battery on the way home from the dealership (and they couldn't swap out the battery for me on the spot). Looking at the battery, where is the mounting bracket to secure the battery down?
Sucker is fricken heavy.... gonna have to find somebody to give me a hand tonight.

Or did it drop right in and the battery hold down bolted right up? Was there a vent kit involved? Which one did you get? How many CCA's?
For some reason the late B5's had a larger battery and for years there were fitment issues until the manufacturers came out with a larger battery to fit properly. I just want to make sure the battery I buy will actually fit before I get it home. Mine's on it's last leg it appears. Don't feel like getting stuck in the cold.

Given that the battery was toast, turning off the car meant I would need to get a boost again and I didn't want to use the last free boost for the year with CAA (similar to AAA in the US).
I ended up going to the nearest Audi dealership and getting a battery there while leaving the car running. So the battery fit as expected and had the vent hole also. The bracket holding down the battery is on the bottom of the battery so you'll need an extension to get at it.
Would have maybe saved $30-$50 if I bought the battery elsewhere, oh well.

I did all the scouring, and most aftermarket batteries are a little shorter. The B5's had two holes in the batt tray, an you could buy one of two brackets to hold either battery down using one of the two holes. It appears the same drama exists with the B7, only I have no idea whether they have two holes or not??
Anyway, crisis averted temporarily. I peeled back the warning labels and found the holes for the battery cells. I added a little water to each, put a charger on the battery, tested it, and it cranked fine. Left it overnight to get good and cold and it started right up this morning. Thanks again for the help! Maybe I'll pull the battery when the weather is warmer and take a peek at the battery tray!
