Audi and Subaru seem to have the upper hand when it comes to sport AWD for the street, but you ower it to yourself to consider a RWD Bimmer. I prefer my quattro, but the BMW really does stand out handling-wise, and like others have already said, a set of true snow tires does wonders...

I am very happy with my 2.0T S-Line, but if the E90 325i sport or 330i had the same lease terms, I would have gone with a Bimmer. The 2.0T engine is peppy but noisy and doesn't compare in smoothness to a BMW inline six engine. Also, BMW has a roomier interior. I just think $40K+ is too much money for a 4-banger.

I for one have never owned a RWD car, only AWD & FWD. But, i've heard from many mustang and RWD owner friends that Snow is not the friend of RWD no matter what tires.

Of course, on AWD with snow tires, it's amazing. But you'd get plenty of traction with the RWD Bimmer on snows.

I looked very strongly at the 325xi when trading in my 03 A4 (I ended up buying an 06 A4 2.0T about a month ago). For me the BMW lost out on only a few points. The main one for me revolved around service standards, go over to the BMW forums and you will find an amazing number of BMW owners opining that their service stinks but it is all worth it for the "Ultimate driving machine". No car is worth having to argue with the service department to get warranty reapirs in my opinion. There was also a lot of complaints and concerns about the runflats. There were a couple of other issues that turned me away as well.
As for the car itself I was really impressed with the way it drove. Oh and my girlfriend at the time hated the interior, she loved the IS250 AWD.
