Default Break In Period

I just picked up my new 2.0TQ MT6 S-Line and the dealer says I have to keep it below 4,000 rpm for the first 5,000 miles. Its driving me crazy but am willing to do it if that is what it takes to break it in properly. Is this correct? Please let me know.

TIA,

Nick Ortwein

Default I followed this:

<a href="http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm">Break in secrets</a>

Some disagree though I think the majority agrees. I did this on my last A4, not a single problem with the engine and it felt strong even after four years at the end of the lease.

Of course, do proper warm up and cool down also.

Default My $0.02

In general, if your US Audi dealer tells you something, it is most probably wrong. There is absolutely no need to keep your revs low for 5k miles.
My method:
No full throttle or constant revs for the first 50 miles and try to avoid idle at all costs.
Do not exceed 80% of max rpm for the first 50 miles.
Once you hit 50 miles, wake up early on sunday and punish her in every imaginable way for about two hours. If the engine is OK, nothing will happen. If something breaks, the engine wasn't right to begin with.

That method was recommended to me by a BMW Motorsports engineer years ago. My family and I have used this method on about 15 cars and it has worked each time. No engine related problems whatsoever.

Default Interesting link but Moto-man never explained...

why the owner's manual recommends the "easy" break-in if it is inferior to his "run-hard" break-in. Any ideas?
