can someone settle the turbo timer question?!?!?!?

here's what i "understand".
they are a device that keeps coolant running through the turbo after engine shut off. this is done because the turbo could still be spinning quite fast when you shut off the car but it's no longer receiving coolant. i recall reading something that talked about this problem being solved by audi in the B7, but also read something that said it wasn't.
regardless, im a little confused. do you still need a turbo timer? are they made for B7's? what if you chip your car?
just curious, any wisdom ya got is cool!

such as the A3, TT and VW applications where the turbo is "hidden" behind the engine and tends to heat soak.
In the A4, where it's mounted longitudinally, the system is not required because it gets much more cooling air.
Do you need a turbo timer? No.
Just drive easier more the last mile or two and you'll be absolutely fine.
If you have to drive "hard" just before stopping, simply let the car idle for a minute-ish before shutting it off.
The number of times you have to do that should be very limited in normal daily driving.
You can, certainly, instal a turbo timer if you like, but it's definitely not necessary.

Keeps oil system pressurized. Not sure if the K03 bearings are oil-cooled or not...

http://www.accusump.com/index.html</a

I just don't like the idea of sitting in the car and waiting for it to cool down or having to adjust my driving style to let the car cool down prior to shut-off. It may not be as important on a stock car but its a very good thing to have on a modded one IMHO, especially considering how cheap timers are. Also I don't know if I buy the transverse vs. longitudinal reasoning. I think that the heat differences are negligible (if exist at all). After all 225TT comes with one and 180TT doesn't. Both turbos are in the same place. K04 generates more boost and more heat and probably that is why it has an after run pump while the K03 version doesn't. So no you don't have to have one, but if you are an aggressive driver and have mods...I would strongly recommend it.

But, I assume the new TT with have the recirculating pump built into it's 2.0.
Like I was saying, you certainly can't hurt anything by properly installing a Turbo Timer on a longitudinally mounted 2.0T, but unless you're doing a large amount of driving on boost right into your garage or track your car a lot and just don't want to wait a minute before you shut it off those times you do, you're probably wasting your money putting a tt in an A4.
Or, at least, you're getting little truly useful value for it.
