Default Dash clicking noise and no AC

Recently there is a clicking almost like gears trying to engage or a motor trying to engage noise coming from the passenger dash compartment. Also no more air conditioning? Are these problems related? I want to try and diagnose before spend a lot on repairs or maybe just a ac recharge?

Bump.......

Ac is charged so my best idea would be ac compressor. But in still not sure because this clicking noise has started since the ac went out. It's so loud when your turn the car off and walk away you can hear it. Comes from passenger dash area.

I have found that Partsgeek has the best prices on AC parts for the A4, at least I haven't found better. Compressor, drier, orfice tube all under $400 shipped.

This. Usually its a servo that goes bad. It could be the one for the blend door and its stuck on "heat"

When you turn the AC on do you hear the AC compressor engage? It should kick on your auxiliary fan and cause the engine to serge slightly at idle.

The compressor does not engage in my case. System is fully charged, "auto" mode stays on but only warm air. I have not checked pressure switch which was suggested on another thread somewhere. At this point I am wondering if a used compressor from an '07 or '08 is okay to purchase and use for my '06? I have been able to find a couple compressors from those years locally in Dallas salvage yards and they both are about $100 less than a compressor in FL. salvage yard from an '06. When trying to find them online used the search results in parts being differentiated between convertible, vin# 23000 thru, vin# from 23000, also notably '06 separate from '07 '08 models. I have read 4 different brands come into play, Denso, Valeo, Zelex and Sanden. Sanden being most reliable as replacement? That is what I have read from one of the TSB's posted on here. It shouldn't make a difference probably if I buy one of the used compressors from an '08 correct?
