Do all 4 tires have to match?

I got my second irreplaceable flat in 4 months. So now I need a new tire. The tire guy said if all four tires don't match (not size and style but brand) I'll wreck the AWD.
Is this true?
I know it's best for all the tires to match but I was hoping to wait until the fall to get some new shoes for the winter. What do you think?

Design could cause different traction between the wheels causing issues with the quattro...
I was in that situation, and I acutally just bought a pair of the same brand of tire and changed my rotation schedule (front to back) until they had basic even wear.
but it's not advised to have three of one type of tire and one of another....
Just my opinion.

a mind of its own when I'm driving it.
Oh and I have a donut for a spare in the trunk (weight savings).

not your Japanese FWD dented ricer daily driver you roll on 14" dubs. ![Wink](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I believe that you need to run the same rolling diameter on all corners, no more than +/- 3/32'ds, or over time you will screw the AWD system to hell because it will read anything greater than that as wheel slippage.
Quattro is all mechanical system, and as close to instantaneous transfer of power where needed as anything out there.
