18's dont look like they need any suspension mods to make the car sit lower, but im wondering if anyone has any opinions or PICTURES on 19" rs4 replicas. thanks

I don't have enough facts about tire size/profile/widths to say for sure, but I've never understood this. If I go from 17s to 18s, and use a lower profile tire, the radius from the ground to the center hub should be identical (and if it isn't, I will have a speedo calibration issue). So, why this concern about 4x4 effect? If the car is the same ride height before and after changing tire size, the larger wheels/smaller tires should do a better job of filling in the wheel well, thereby having less "black tire" and more visible wheel, and REDUCING the 4x4 effect.

Maybe going to 18s, and especially 19s, it just isn't possible to get low enough profile tires to completely accomplish what I have described? I'd have to look at a table or do the math on tire width vs. profile % I guess.

In fact, I have Conti all-season 17s right now, and I haven't read the sidewall, but they don't even seem all that low profile to me -- seems to be plenty of room to reduce profile as I increase wheel size.

I will now "rest my case" and await the inferno of responses telling me what I don't know. --DDD

Doesn't bigger rim(19 or 18) close the wheel gap vs a 17? I know bigger wheel will increase ride height by raising the car. But it shouldn't increase wheel gap, it should reduce it. also 40 profile for 45 is not a huge difference.

Make any sense?

The car will sit lower...the car and tires will not. In other words, the car will appear to sit lower, with less wheel gap, but the ride height will actually increase going from a 17" to say an 18" or 19". Simple physics.

So, if your concern is wheel gap, problem solved(to some extent). If your concern is ride height(ground clearance) being too high, then no, you will need to lower it, especially with use of larger wheels.

if you get the appropriate tire size (which you want to otherwise your speedo is off) it will be exactly the same...

just with less tire and more rim the gap is as i said accentuated... its purely a looks thing, because the gap technically has not changed at all
