Yesterday I ran the tank down to within 5-10 miles of empty according to the trip computer. Average mileage according to the trip computer was 30.5 mpg. I filled up, and stopped when the pump tripped (no top off), and it swallowed 16.2 gallons!?!? Doing that math, that's roughly 28.2 mpg! Why is the trip computer so "optimistic". On both my B5's it was a little more truthful!
Honestly, I was hoping to top 30 mpg on this tank. I drive 75% highway, but I intentionally drove it like a granny to see how much I could squeeze out of this little engine on my regular commute.

My 06 2.0 is totally stock. I calculated an even 27 my last tank - 405 miles on 15 gals. That was ~100 miles freeway, the rest urban and suburban. I get about 25 on the latter, and about 33 on the freeway using Shell V-power. Maybe the APR chip is sneaking in on you? 19-inch wheels?

I've noticed a rather optomistic trip computer as well. My car is bone stock right now (not really planning to mod the car other than a short shifter & chip.)
Most of my driving is around town, and I barely break 20mpg. But on a good highway jaunt the trip computer often says 33mpg.
I haven't figured out how to get the trip computer to show figures for the entire tank. So it only shows each trip, and resets itself every time I get back in the car after more than 2 hours. So the best I was able to do was 4 highway drives during a week-long trip to NJ, with a trip to NY in the middle. About 400 miles to the tank. The trip computer was reading 33-35 on the highway. And the overall tank milage (including that trip to NY) was 31mpg. Not bad. I love the 6-spd trans.
Cheers,
P.

My B6 S4 had me suckered for months...I was reading getting 16-17 mixed but I was really getting 14-15. But its hard to drive an S4 like a granny and with a manual my foot was always trigger happy.

I get about 21-22 in 95% urban driving and my lead foot.
Also, didn't you have a B5 S4 previously and hang out in the forum for a few years? I think we met at Mid-Ohio 3-4 years ago.

We met at Mid Ohio when I had my Santorin S4. I think you had an S2000 for a while?
This was mostly low speed highway driving with 100 miles of around the town mixed in. Average speed over that tank was 35mph.
I was impressed with the numbers on the trip computer, and a little irked that they didn't pan out when I used the math to confirm. IIRC, there was a way to adjust the mileage calculations on the trip computer using vag.com so that you could get it closer to "right". Gotta look that up and see if I can tweak it.
