Default got my subs and amp installed today!!

x2 jl-audio w3's 10"
1 1500 watt "crunch" amp
custom (i.e. ghetto) bandpass box
with having the avic-d1 as my head unit the install was easy, the only tough part was getting the power cable through the firewall. i went around the ac box, due to how thick the wire i was using, going to have to re-seal that area with silicone before it rains again to be safe.
love the sound. may be alittle too much bass for some people's taste, but i turn it down for music thats not bassy, perfect compliment to the stock system IMO

Default so you have stock speakers...

...all around?
Are you happy with the setup?
You see...I already have a sub that I still need to install (I had in my previous car) so that's a done deal - I am doing it this weekend..... but I am not sure I want to also do HU....how much that gonna help if I still keep the stock speakers???
I must admit I am not happy with the stock system.

Default when i got the car it came with the avic-d1 preinstalled, made it a breeze to get a signal for the..

amp, the stock speakers sound fine, like they usually do with the factory system, just the avic-d1 wasnt pumping enough bass for me with the stock speakers, so i got my old system box/amp and put it in. i'm happy with it and how i have the eq and amp set-up. works fine IMO. but i think the avic-d3 is hot, thats my next upgrade. the only problem i can see you having is that you have to use a hi-low converter or use an amp with speaker level inputs with the stock HU, major pain in the *** IMO. tho my last system used that in my 02 b6 with bose, and worked flawlessly. nothing like vibrating my car to death, haha

Default Mine are all stock too. Just turn the bass down on the HU and...

use the subs to fill it in. The stock speakers sound great when they don't have to play all of the bass in your music.

Default nice nice, i need to make a new box to make my setup that pretty, heh ....

my box was once ported, so i had to fill the holes. liquid nail and tennis *****, then cut out a port for the band pass through plexiglass. extra liquid nail to hold the window in, and you have my craptastic hard hitting box. i'll take picts in the daylight. dont seem to have any on my mac right now

Default you mean you kept your stock HU....

the sub is a sure thing....I am just not sure how much sound improvement I would get with an aftermarket HU...

Default i had my box in a b6 before with stock HU

and i had to use a hi-low converter to get an input. supposibly not good for singal

with aftermarket HU (my AVIC-D1) it has pre-amp outs in the back, and mine has ones that dont fade just for subs to use. plugging in an rca cable, vs trying to find 4 cables to tap, two for each speaker, to get the stereo rca output from the hi-low converter sucks, alot, major PITA but i did it
