Default Headlight Error Problems

Firstly Hello everybody & thanks in advance for any advice.

I recently purchased a 3.0 TDI Quattro S-Line Audi A4 on a 2005 plate (first of the B7 I think).
After driving the car home I noticed one headlight was flickering (Bi-xenon). After some research I purchased a ballast unit from ebay & fitted it. The light did not flicker, but was now not as bright as the other & also I had an headlight error on the dash.

I then found a whole headlight unit complete with bulbs & ballast which I purchased & fitted.
Now all lights are working perfectly & everything seems as it should but I still have the error message.

One Thing to mention which may or may not be relevant is the fact that if I start the engine & press for a test all is ok.
The error only appears when I select Drive (Automatic).
The error displayed is a headlight with a sort of rotary arrow pointing left (it was the right headlight changed).

Haven't heard of this model before in North America - where are you located.

1st suggestion would be to use VCDS to clear any error codes in Module 55, Xenon Range just in case they were left behind from your intial problems.

If the codes reoccur, you may need to look at the connections & sensors for the headlight adjustment motors.

Hi & thanks for your reply.
I have used a simple fault code unit to clear all faults.
As I said though, the problem re-occurs when I select drive to move off.

As for the car, 3L Diesel 4 wheel drive Automatic with Tiptronic gearbox saloon in silver.
I am located in the U.K.
If I take the car to a dealer they want £135 just to put it on the diagnostic !

Audi of America sent a warranty extension to A4 owners with bi-xenon headlights (I realize you're in the UK). You should search the forum for other threads regarding this and maybe talk to an Audi rep about your options...

I shall have a look for other threads. As for Audi reps, in the UK Audi are very un-helpful when it comes to second hand cars. I find even buying spares from them is a bit of a chore.
