recently i ve seen tire stems with green caps. I was told that is because of addition of hydogen to the tire air upon inflation. reason for this is to prevent aluminum rims corrosion and deterioration. Anyone knows anything about it? Or am I really naive

Nitrogen is what is being used. The air is 76% nitrogen, so it is not significant that nitrogen is used. What is significant is the fact that there is no water vapor in the nitrogen which is put in car tires. It cannot expand with heat and affect your tire pressure while driving.

Nitrogen gas, as an inflation alternative to air, is becoming more prevalent in the market place and is being marketed as a benefit to the standard practice of using air to inflate tires.
Over a period of time both oxygen and nitrogen are able to penetrate through tire casings. However, oxygen molecules and nitrogen molecules are different sizes with oxygen being a smaller molecule than nitrogen. The size difference in the molecules allows the smaller oxygen molecule to permeate through the rubber at a more rapid rate.
