Idle vibration question 2.0T Quattro Tiptronic
For some reason all of a sudden the vibration at idle is starting to drive me crazy again. I thought I had gotten used to it but maybe since the A/C is not blowing so hard now that it's cooler I may feel it more? Over the weekend I rode in the back seat for the first time and was surprised you could feel it there, I thought it was mainly from the drivers seat and steering wheel. I had a 2.0 CVT recently as a loaner and didn't notice it nearly as bad at idle as I do my tip. Anyone had any experience getting anything addressed with the 2.0 idle vibration issue?

I don't think there is a fix to this, its just the nature of the 2.0T FSI, unfortunately. It does
idle "rougher" than my 1.8T does. Had the 2.0T loaner a few times, all tip and it does produce this.

Doesn't this sorta exist with most automatic cars?
The loaners I have from hertz and the likes that are automatic, they all seem to do this at a stop sign if I have it in drive, but throw it into neutral or park and the vibration is gone.

That's true as well...but the 2.0T is pretty noticible. In my folk's MB, I don't notice
any vibrations in drive. MB does make a pretty smooth automatic.
Most automatics out there do have some vibrations while in Drive but just more noticible in the 2.0T engine.

I have a tip as well and noticed that...
...if you pull it out of gear (put it in neutral), everything smoothes out and it feels like the CVT (from a loaner I once had). Seems to me there is a problem in the coupling of the engine to the drive train (torque converter?!?).

that is common in most automatic transmissions...probably something to do with
engaging and disengaging the torque converter. Just the nature of most auto transmissions.

Just brought my 067 2.0TQ tip in and
The dealer said they compared mine to other similar cars at the dealership and the sound and vibrations were comparable, so it's "normal." This sounds to me like a pretty dumb way for a company to decide if their product is crap or not. For my money I haven't had an automatic in 30 years that is as rough at idle as this. My 02 Altima was a 4 cylinder and was much, much smoother - I even had to verify a few times it was in running, thinking maybe I had stalled it. I am now looking for what to get in September 07 when my 24 mo lease on this car is up and so far nothing I test drive has as jerky and noisy a drivetrain - even tried out an M3 convertible and boy is that smooth!!!!
Also, when at the dealer I asked them to check out a slight groaning sound I get from the front brakes at the very end of a gradual stop. When I picked up the car there was a $55 charge for cleaning the front rotors and calipers. This was at 11,600 miles and the service guy said that I probably had washed the car by hand and in that case the brake dust builds up causing the noise. He said people that go to commercial car washes don't have the problem because the strong chemicals they use keep the brakes clean. That's a new one on me - a dealership kind of encouraging you to go the car wash route. I had simply asked them to check the noise and tell me whether it was normal or not - but they "fixed it" for $55 (a small number I admit). BTW - it still makes the sound. Well, only 11 more months and counting!!!

I know what you mean. This is my 3rd A4 and I can't wait to get out of this one. I can't take this engine vibration. I've also had the brake complaint and they say it's normal. Maybe I'll try a commercial car wash.
