if i want to sell my APR chip?
long time no posty!
my B7 is coming off lease soon, and i'd like to be able to sell my APR ECU to someone out there, as i plan to turn the car in. can anyone tell me the logistics of selling it. i presume i'd have to trade chips with the buyer. can i switch chips with anyone with a B7 A4, or do we have to have a serial # range match?
any help is mucho appreciated.

A "chip" is in fact the factory ECU "flashed" or "downloaded" with a new program...........
It essentially tells the ECU to run different settings than stock. It is not a phyiscal "chip" that can be taken off.
You would have to swap out ECU's, and that is something I would not want to do. Might mess things up and create a horrendous service experience.
Also, if you did get it to work, the new "chip" owner would have no support at their local speed shop for the chip either.
Not worth it really. I activated the stock file on my A4 (GIAC) and turned the car in. They then did the OY update so there the car was as good as new for the new owner.

I remember seeing a case like this in the TT forum.
I haven't done any search yet, but I remember seeing someone swapping ECUs on the TTs to "sell" the flashed version...
I don't recall the steps, but I wouldn't be surprised that the ECU would light up the CEL, something that can be cleared, but with similar cars and same engine model, I gues it is possible.
I don't have information on how painful or painless it could be, but give it a shot on making a few searches at the TT MK1 forum...
Best of luck!!

If you are in the Chicago area I'll take it if.....
our cars are compatible because you have to move the entire ECM from one car to the other. The only thing that you have to watch out for is to make sure that the ECM's from both the cars have the same part number. Different part numbers are wired different and cause A LOT of strange codes when connected (believe me, I tried it with a friends ECM). With that though you have to re-adapt both of the ECM's to the immobilizer's in the cars. I would be willing to do if it is possible, and for a resonable price on the APR ECM. Let me know.

Are you out of warranty? Because, if not, breaking the chastity belt on your ECU....
will guarantee that you soon will be.
I sure as hell wouldn't do that just to possibly save a few dollars on an ECU flash.
I simply can't understand why ANYONE would go through the hassle to pay for and try and swap an ECU on a B7 to one that is already flashed when you could have your own flashed WITH support for about $500.
