I have the stock wheels/tires on my '07 A4 and am coming up to 4300 miles. My question is when it comes time to turn in the car (my term is 3yr/45k miles) will the dealership charge me for new tires automatically if I am still running the original tires? Let's assume they are not bald and are at 30-40% optimistically.
I thought about buying some aftermarket wheels/tires (RS4 reps with A/S tires) and then swapping in the originals before lease turn in. I'd rather not do this b/c I'd probably end up spending more on the wheel/tire combo rather than just replacing the tires at the end of the lease. Also, I love how easy it is to clean the S-line wheels.

IMHO you're going to end up getting new tires at some point either because the lease turn in requires too much tread depth or your tires simply wearing out before 45k miles.
In my case the car came with crap all-season tires. So I took them off and stored them to put back on the car at lease return. Then got a set of Dunlop SP Sport Maxx to enjoy while I have the car. (I run Dunlop Wintersport 3D in the winter.)
