I have these in my Avant. Works great and doesn't look too cheesy

Try the auto department at Target.
They've got some of those seat back protectors that have pockets to hold the kids' small books and toys. Some of the designs have cartoon characters as well.
Definitely not a fashion statement for your car but very functional for holding all the clutter that the kids bring into the car.
