Default Ironic, since it seems like CVT should be *more* responsive

In a CVT, I would think the throttle should basically specify the amount of power desired at the wheels. The ECU & transmission controller should then negotiate the quickest way to achieve that power (i.e. how quick to rev vs. downshift) and then settle back into the most efficient revs & ratio for it, as the output approaches the input.

Maybe Audi felt that sort of responsiveness & throttle behavior would be too surprising & unfamiliar to potential buyers.

Thanks for all the input guys, from what i see here, from what the dealer says, from responses i have gotten in other forums, it seems there is little to be done. I think its a great car and honestly if it were my dailydriver I would just adapt to the car and probably love it... but my wife will no doubt continue to complain... too bad i guess.

furthermore, the dealer gave me a loaner A4 same year, same spec, same driving characteristics same rattle/lifter noise. So that's that... when the warranty is on the outs ill chip and see what that does for it.

all things considered its a beautiful machine especially on the highway. i am very pleased with it and will probably look at an NA Audi for the next ride.

Thanks again for your input everyone.

Default ....or a manual tranny. I think this is mostly due to the auto.

I bounce back and forth between my 2.0T manual and my 997S and I notice very little lag in the Audi.

Default It's not the turbo, it's the trans.

the 2.0T (on the stock tune) reaches peak torque at something like 1800 RPM ... it's not laggy

Default Okay, if it's not laggy, it's anemic!

Doesn't help that it's trying to lug 3600 lbs around. I'd love to toss this engine in a mini cooper!

Default it does its job pretty well, all things considered

though a GT2871R or 3071R definitely wouldn't hurt ;-)

It isn't that it is lag, it is how the ECU is programed. I just got my '06 A4 B7 Quattro last weekend, and have already noticed the difference between the TFSI in the A4 and the CCTA in my wifes 2012 GTI. In her GTI, the boost picks up around 2k rpms and is a totaly different animal in 6th gear compared to the A4 in 6th gear, which from what I am seeing, starting after 3rd gear, the boost doesn't pick up until about 2.5k-3k rpms.
