Need help identifying broken hose

<center><img src="http://www.holle.com/AUDI/1.JPG"></center><p>My 2002 A4 went into limp mode this evening and I found a broken hose. Can anyone tell me what this hose is used for?

love your caractere front end... how low is it to the ground ...is it practical?
