Dumb question, but I have just taken delivery of a new A4 in the UK.

Its got the new grill etc, would this make it a 2005 model or a 2006 model. I hear people talking of 2006 models but in my ignorance thought that a 2006 model would only be available in 2006.

Any ideas ?

I don't think that's a dumb question at all.

Sometimes manufacturers are in a rush to release a new line and choose not to wait until the specific cutoff date that differentiates model years. (I can't remember that date of manufacture, but the new A4 was released a few months ahead of it)

The manufacturer then has a choice to decide whether to call it a 2005.5 or a 2005.

Audi seems to have chosen to officially call it a 2005.

You'll see many folks (me included) and some publications call the B7 A4s, produced before the official '06 model year, 2005.5s, but my window sticker says "2005"

Type in your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) here http://www.analogx.com/contents/vinview.htm and it will tell you.

To my surprise mine was a 2006. It was ordered in mid june and delivered in mid july.

BTW - am loving the new Audi, just drove from the UK to Belguim for the GP over the weekend.1st road trip in it and it was great.

Dont tell the cops but sat at 95/100 the whole way and still averaged 43mpg!!!!
